SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email security system, which is is intended to confirm whether an email message was sent by a certified server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain name will stop the counterfeiting of email addresses generated with the domain. In simple words: activating this attribute for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP of the servers that are allowed to send emails from mail boxes using the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it will exist on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through verifies whether it comes from an approved server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, yet if it doesn't originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is discarded. In this way nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address then make it look as if you're e-mailing spam messages. This method is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

SPF protection can be enabled for every domain hosted in a cloud website hosting account on our cloud hosting platform with no more than a couple of clicks. The function is accessible in the Emails section of our hi-tech Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to use it is to choose one of your domains from a drop-down list and to enter the hostnames plus the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the email servers that will be certified to send messages from your emails. As an added option you can even restrict the e-mails to be sent from your domain name only if it has our MX records, i.e. when our servers handle the emails for it, not some third-party supplier. This solution gives you the highest degree of safety, but it is not applicable when only your web site is on our servers while the e-mail addresses for the domain name are managed elsewhere. In either case, the SPF protection service will keep your emails secure from being used for spam or scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, which comes as standard with all of our Linux semi-dedicated servers, will provide you with an extremely user-friendly interface to activate the SPF protection service for any domain name that you host in your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that and you'll only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be permitted to send messages from your e-mails. In case the e-mails are taken care of by us and not by another provider, you will be able to raise the security level even further and activate an option for your outgoing e-mail messages to be sent only if your domains feature our MX records. This option gives you better control and it'll eliminate any chance of anyone faking your e-mail addresses with the intention of spamming and scamming people. It is not applicable if only your website is on our modern cloud web hosting platform, while your email addresses are managed by another service provider. If you aren't sure what features to choose, our technical support staff will assist you 24/7.
